Saturday Date Day

I had spent all week trying to figure out a great 'date day' for Hub's and I yesterday. We really haven't had one in a while and the weather supposedly was going to be nice. With friends and other blogger recommendations, we decided to check out the Thai Festival that was going on at the Prater for lunch before heading out to my "secret location". It was a celebration of 60 years of relations between Thailand and Austria. The food and atmosphere was great. And since we hadn't explored the Prater, it was an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. It's an amusement park that's open year-round and houses the famous giant ferris wheel that is one of the iconic symbols of Vienna. We felt nostalgic walking around the park.

After spending a few hours there, we headed over to the main attraction of the day. We took a bus about 20 minutes outside of Vienna to a town called Laxenburg (not to be confused with the country of a similar sounding name). It's a cute town with lots of history. It is also home to the famous Laxenburg castle. The castle was quite impressive. Emperor Franz II was responsible for the construction of this reproduction of a medieval knights castle on an artificial island in the middle of the castle's pond. We rented a boat and cruised around the pond and got some great pictures and relaxation. Afterwards, we went into the town and crashed a wedding. Not really, but I did feel like paparazzi snapping up pictures. We ended our wonderful date day with a meal at one of our favorite restaurants in town and had a facetime session with a lot of our closest friends back home. A great day indeed!
